William Dunlap, who gave this book to Charles Willson Peale, was a Philadelphia print and book seller who served with Peale during the Revolution. Dunlap’s nephew, John, was the printer of the first copies of the Declaration of Independence. Charles Willson Peale gave this book to his son, Rembrandt, in 1795, the same year he painted the Staircase Group.
