Description
Summary:Secularism and humanism: a title and two words of great relevance both in Quebec and elsewhere in the world. This book, with contributions from key players who fuel the debate on the meaning and definition of secularism in 21st-century Quebec, comes at the right time. The texts by Thomas De Koninck, Jacques Dufresne, Georges Leroux, Guillaume Rousseau , Mathieu Bock-Côté, Normand Baillargeon, Mohamed Lotfi and Charles Le Blanc do not defend a particular thesis about secularism. They rather form a set of polyphonic reflections which present themselves as a philosophical, legal, political and sociological contribution to the question of the religious neutrality of the State. At the end of the collection appears a text by Voltaire on tolerance, which comes to both place the issues addressed in a historical perspective and illustrate the ongoing nature of a debate of which this book is intended to be one of the many echoes.
